Tehran (ISNA) - "Houses must be a place for people to relax in, not a tool for making profit," said Iranian president Hassan Rouhani at the 5th International Summit of the World Assembly of Islamic Cities in Qazvin, adding: "Cities must find legitimate and healthy source of income and the government is ready to cooperate and draft the required bills in this regard".

"Funding the expenses of cities is carried out through incorrect ways such as selling density surplus and the rights of people and generations," added the president.

"In today’s world, the issue of urban management and managing people’s affairs, especially in bigger cities, is very complicated and hard," he continued.

"Urban management and citizens affairs needs bonds among civilization, science, and technology," said the president, adding: "Islamic cities are the best symbols of the Islamic civilization".

He also said: "The architecture of cities represents people's beliefs and their culture," adding that “the mosque is a place for people to worship, carry out cultural activities and consult with each other”.

"The economy and the market in Islamic cities are taken from the native and cultural atmosphere," added Rouhani, saying: "Cultural roots are the base for urban development".

He also went on to say: "Houses must be a place for people to relax in, not a tool for making profit".

“We are away from the lofty goals of urban development,” said president Rouhani adding: "Peoples culture and privacy in the cities must be secure".

"Peoples security and peace must come before anything else in urban management," the president continued.

Stating that “in urban management, we have no right to destroy the environment and the cultural heritage,” he said: "Cities must find legitimate and healthy source of income and the government is ready to cooperate and draft the required bills in this regard".

Rouhani added: "We need sustainable management, preserving the environment, and satisfying peoples needs in urban management".

"Integrated management, synergy of organs and peoples support lay the groundwork for cities long-term development," he continued.

Using modern technologies for optimal management of the cities affairs is essential, said the President, adding: "We are happy that in Iran, cities are being managed through city councils and peoples votes".

Stating that "communication and relations between cities around the world and developing tourism leads to upgrading experiences", he said: "Qazvin is one of the most tourist-attracting cities of Islamic Iran".
