Iran condemns blast in Baghdad’s Sadr City

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Bahram Ghasemi has condemned a suicide car bomb in Baghdad's Sadr City district on Monday which killed several dozen.

“Recently we saw an increase in terrorist acts particularly in Iraq. These acts are not only the reactions of extremists to their latest failures but also they indicate lack of serious determination among those who claim fighting terrorism regionally or globally”, he said.

He hoped political approaches in New Year lead to unity in fighting terrorism.

Ghasemi also sympathized with Iraqi government and nation over the deadly attack.

A suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laden vehicle Monday in a bustling market area in Baghdad, killing several dozen, Iraqi officials said, hours after the arrival of French President Francois Hollande to the country and amid a fierce fight against ISIS.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, in a statement circulated on a militant website often used by the extremists.
