Window of reaching agreement won’t be open forever: Khatibzadeh

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that during the Vienna talks a lot of progress has been made in four areas of lifting sanctions and implementing commitments, guarantees, verification, as well as lifting sanctions and the nuclear issue.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh said, “Due to US bad record and Europe inaction, Iran has to be sure that no one will humiliate the international regulations in the future”.

“If there is a common draft today, it is because the West realized that it should retreat from its maximum demands. They found that they cannot go beyond the JCPOA on the nuclear issue,” he added.

Referring to the continuation of the eighth round of talks in Vienna on Monday, the spokesman said, “Bilateral and multilateral talks will begin this afternoon”.

Warning that the window of reaching an agreement will not be opened forever, Khatibzadeh stated, “Time is so sensitive and the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer bear the burden of keeping the JCPOA alive. We don’t participate in Vienna talks with the aim of wasting Iranian negotiating team’s time and energy. Our certain proposals are on the table. The other parties should also come up with certain proposals so that we can reach a good agreement in the shortest possible time”.

The spokesman also rejected claims made by some European and American officials regarding setting deadlines for Vienna talks, saying, “Iran will not accept any fake deadline. No deadline has been set for the outcome of the Vienna talks and the main purpose for Iranian negotiating team is realization of rights of Iranian people within the framework of previous agreements”.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khatibzadeh pointed to the second anniversary of the assassination of Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, saying that the perpetrators of his assassination will be brought to justice and no efforts will be spared in this regard.

“Martyr Soleimani is the symbol of resistance and unity,” he emphasized.

Regarding the Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Moscow in the coming days, Khatibzadeh said, “His visit will take place at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and will focus on economic, political and cultural cooperation”.

In response to a question about the possibility of signing a document on strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia during the President's visit to Moscow, Khatibzadeh expressed hope that the work will be done on this trip.
