There no step-by-step agreement in Vienna talks: Khatibzadeh

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that there is no a step-by-step agreement in Vienna talks.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh said, “Iran has entered Vienna talks with serious determination and we will do our best to reach a good agreement. In our opinion, a good agreement is that all JCPOA parties to fulfill their commitments accordingly”.

“We are not in a hurry and we do not allow anyone to waste our time. Everyone should know that there is no a step-by-step agreement in Vienna talks,” he added.

Khatibzadeh also announced that the next round of Vienna talks will start this week and the exact date will be finalized in a telephone conversation between the head of the Iranian negotiating team Ali Bagheri and EU External Action Service Deputy Secretary General Enrique Mora.

Regarding border incidents with Afghanistan last week, the spokesman said that the incidents were due to unfamiliarity of border guards of the caretaking government of Afghanistan.

“Iran has constructed border walls in some parts of its borders with Afghanistan. These walls have been constructed some hundred meters intro Iran's territory in some locations and the new Afghan border guards have mistaken the walls for zero line between Iran and Afghanistan,” Khatibzadeh added.

“Iran and Afghanistan have since established direct contact lines to prevent such incidents from happening again,” he went on to say.

Regarding the purpose of Emirati National Security Advisor’s visit to Tehran, khatibzadeh said, “Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has traveled to Tehran to meet with his Iranian counterpart. Iran’s certain policy is good neighborliness and despite some differences, we attempt to redefine our relations with the UAE.

Regarding Syrian Foreign Minister’s visit to Tehran, Khatibzadeh said, “This trip has taken place in the framework of bilateral relations between Tehran and Damascus as well as upon an official invitation by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. Reviewing Syria’s latest field developments, cooperation between the two countries, and Astana peace process are among the most important topics on the agenda of the talks between the top Syrian diplomat and Iranian officials”.

Pointing a report regarding the Saudi crown prince's trip to Persian Gulf states with Iran's nuclear issue on agenda, Khatibzadeh said, “Iran advised its neighbors to focus a little on correcting their wrong policies and to put the same energy for making rational and mature statements”.
