Iran to carry out negotiations relying on wisdom of the crowd: FM Amir-Abdollahian

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed that Tehran will carry out Vienna talks on revival of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) relying on wisdom of the crowd.

In an exclusive interview with ISNA on the sidelines of his recent regional tour, Amir-Abdollahian said, “Foreign policy in the 13th administration is a balanced foreign policy under active, dynamic and intelligent diplomacy. Our focus on Asia and the region doesn’t mean that we don’t pay attention to other regions including the West. One of the characteristics of a balanced foreign policy is that we will pay attention to priorities while using every opportunity in other areas of the world to maximize the interests of our nation”.

Mentioning that during his recent visit to New York, he had met with 18 European foreign ministers, the top diplomat noted, “This proved that our focus on the East doesn’t mean that we don’t pay attention to the West but the westerns should know that Iran is in the same area as China, Russia and India are and you are losing day by day due to following US’s policies and failure to implement your obligations to Iran. By the way, Iran doesn’t sit on its hands and will decide based on its interest and will move forward”.

Regarding the JCPOA, Iranian foreign minister reiterated, “Iran is set to resume talks with world powers in Vienna on reviving the 2015 nuclear agreement as the process of reviewing earlier rounds of negotiations is nearing conclusion. The review process that has been underway since the new government led by President Ebrahim Raisi took over in August will be completed in the coming days. As the issue of negotiations is highly sensitive at the national level and involves multilateral talks, we should pursue the matter relying on coordination, consensus and wisdom of the crowd”.
