Drafting process of Iran-Russia comprehensive cooperation document underway

Tehran (ISNA) - Assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister and Director General of Eurasia at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alireza Haghighian announced that drafting process of a comprehensive cooperation document between Tehran and Moscow is underway.

In an exclusive interview with ISNA, Alireza Haghighian said, “During Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahisn’s recent visit to Moscow upon an invitation by his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed and the two sides stressed on the need for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in different sectors”.

“In bilateral relations section, cooperation in political, economic, banking, trade, tourism, consular, and cultural fields as well as cooperation in fighting coronavirus pandemic and ways to expand the cooperation were discussed and the two sides emphasized the need to accelerate the removal of some obstacles, especially in the field of visa issuance for Iranian businessmen,” he added.

“The Russian side welcomed the proposal and said that his country is ready to deepen and consolidate bilateral and regional cooperation,” Haghighian went on to say.

“Currently, the volume of trade between Iran and Russia is about $2 billion, of which about $700 million has been the share of Iran's exports,” he said.

“Regarding bilateral cooperation in tourism section, there is an agreement on lifting visa requirements for tourist groups which was suspended due to the COVID 19 pandemic and lack of executive mechanism for it. Recently, a joint plan of action for implementation of the agreement was signed between the relevant officials of the two sides and it was decided that the agreement enter into implementation in near future, after the normalization of the pandemic,” the official added.
