Reza Mirkarimi appointed as jury member of Busan film festival

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian film writer and director, Reza Mirkarimi has been appointed as one of the jury members of the 26th Busan International Film Festival.

The 26th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has confirmed the juries for the Kim Jiseok, BIFF Mecenat, and Sonje Awards.

Reza Mirkarimi, Gulnara Abikeyeva, and Kim Haery have been appointed as the members of the Kim Jiseok Award jury.

The Kim Jiseok Award was established in 2017 to commemorate the spirit of the late BIFF program director, Kim Jiseok, who was dedicated to the discovery of and support for new directors as well as to the growth of Asian cinema. Among the world premieres directed by renowned Asian directors, two films are selected and each director is awarded USD 10,000. This year, Iranian director Reza Mirkarimi has been appointed as the jury president. Gulnara Abikeyeva, professor and film critic from Kazakhstan, and Kim Haery, a film critic and the current editor-in-chief of the film magazine CINE21, will form the Kim Jiseok Award jury.

BIFF 2021, which is now publicizing the announcements of the Kim Jiseok, BIFF Mecenat, and Sonje Awards jury members, who will be responsible for selecting emerging directors to lead the future of Asian cinema and the best cinematic works throughout Asia, will be held for ten days from October 6th to October 15th.

Reza Mirkarimi has directed several films such as “Under the Moonlight”, “So Close, So Far”, “Here, a Shining Light”, “As Simple as That”, “A Cube of Sugar” and etc.
