Tehran-Washington negotiations over exchanging prisoners underway: Government spokesman

Tehran (ISNA) - Iran’s government spokesman Ali Rabiei announced that negotiations between Tehran and Washington over exchanging prisoners are underway.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Rabiei said, “Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had proposed the exchange of all Iranian and American prisoners from long ago, and the Biden administration has been considering this issue since taking power”.

“Negotiations are underway in this regard, and more information will be released after achieving results,” he added.

Regarding Afghanistan’s situation, Rabiei said, “We are sensitively following border, security, economic and political issues in Afghanistan. We have always stressed that the security of Afghanistan is fragile with the presence of foreign forces. Moreover, we have condemned the violence perpetrated by any group in Afghanistan”.

He also noted that necessary measures have been taken to take care of borders.
