Iran, Russia to sign visa-free agreement for tourist groups

Tehran (ISNA) - he Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Ali Asghar Mounesan has traveled to Moscow to sign a bilateral visa-free agreement for tourist groups with Russia.

Ali Asghar Mounesan has traveled to Moscow upon an official invitation by Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism.

In 2017, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin inked a visa-free agreement for tourist groups. A joint technical committee has been developing an action plan for the previously agreed visa-free travel arrangements since then, in order to put the agreement into effect. However, the outbreak of the coronavirus has put a halt to the agreement.

Based on the 2017 agreement tour groups of 5 to 50 people heading to Russia from Iran or vice versa are granted a visa-free stay of up to 15 days.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday, “Today, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Ali Asghar Mounesan is arriving in Moscow to sign an agreement on lifting visa requirements for tourist groups”.

According to the diplomat, under the deal, tourists of both countries will be able to travel to Iran and Russia through accredited companies, and the entire group will receive one visa. Jalali stressed that tourism is a foundation for developing Iranian-Russian ties.
