Iranian, Georgian FMs meet in Tbilisi

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met his Georgia counterpart Mikheil Janelidze on Tuesday in Tbilisi.

During this meeting, the two high-ranking diplomats discussed regional and international issues and expanding bilateral relations.

“We already have great relations with Iran and ready to pave the way for expanding cooperation in various areas,” Janelidze said.

Pointing to the different areas for Iran’s investment in Georgia, he added: “the numbers of Iranian tourists traveling to Georgia have increased and we willing to cooperate with Iran in technology, agriculture and academic interaction and exchange of professors and students fields”.

In his turn, Zarif said: “Iran wants to deepen its ties with Georgia and bilateral cooperation in judicial, academic and transit fields in particular corridor the Persian Gulf-Black Sea, establishing industrial and energy parks particularly gas and banking cooperation and joint investments between the two countries are the main topics”.

Zarif was welcomed by deputy foreign minister of Georgia David Jalagania at Tbilisi Airport.

During the visit to Georgia, Zarif is scheduled to hold meetings with Georgian senior political officials including the Speaker of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze on developing relations.

Zarif left Tehran Sunday for Turkmenistan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.
