More than 56 million people can vote in upcoming elections

Tehran (ISNA) – More than 56 million people eligible to vote in Iran presidential election, head of the Interior Ministry's Election Office Ali Asghar Ahmadi announced.

“Iranians will go to the polls on May 19 to elect a new president and members of local City and Village Councils, with more than 56 million people eligible to vote. Of that number more than one million people will vote for the first time,” Ahmadi said.

Iran will simultaneously hold the 12th presidential election and the 5th City and Village Councils Elections on May 19.

The six candidates of the presidential election are incumbent president Hassan Rouhani, first Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, Tehran mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, member of Iran’s Expediency Council Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, the current custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH) in the northeastern city of Mashhad and former vice president Mostafa Hashemi-Taba.
