The railroad connecting Iran's Astara city to Azerbaijan's Astara city started pilot operation during the president of Azerbaijan's visit to Tehran.
The project, which was agreed before by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, puts into operation the Astara-Astara railroad that serves as a part of North-South Corridor.
The test operation was marked by Azerbaijani train reaching at Iran's Astara station, set off its journey from Azerbaijan's Astara.
The project will connect the Islamic Republic of Iran's railroad to Europe through the Republic of Azerbaijan, which will maximize tapping the transit and transportation potentials for the two countries.
